This apprenticeship framework, ranging from Intermediate to Higher level, has been designed with the help of schools to attract new people into the Facilities Management (FM) sector and to up-skill the existing workforce with qualifications. FM involves providing a quality and cost effective maintenance and care service for a wide range of school buildings including offices, classrooms, kitchens, sports centres and grounds. Facilities Managers make sure that facilities such as security, catering and cleaning (referred to as ‘soft services’) and maintenance and building services (referred to as ‘hard services’) run smoothly, so that schools can run efficiently. The sector is also responsible for property and estates management, including energy management and environmental protection.

Unit 2: Health and Safety for Facilities ServicesThis unit will provide learners with an understanding of health and safety legislation and how to work safely. Learners will also develop an awareness of ways of controlling risks when working in a cleaning and support services
Unit 3: Working with Customers and Others in Facilities ServicesThis unit is about communicating politely and effectively with pupils, colleagues and the public when performing tasks.
Unit 4: Sustainability and Environmental Issues for Facilities ServicesThis unit enables learners to understand sustainability in its general sense and in the context of a facilities services environment, focusing on the conservation of utilities.
