The leading school apprenticeship programme in the UK,
trusted by thousands of schools.
National Schools Training (NST) are the leading provider of training and Apprenticeships to schools across the UK. We support thousands of schools to improve the effectiveness of professional development across the entire workforce, including Support Staff, Teachers and Senior Leaders.
The Government want the public sector to play a role in meeting their target of 3 million new apprentices by 2020. Many large schools, multi-academy trusts and schools hosted by their local authority have a duty to meet these targets.
As part of the programme, we recently launched the ‘One by 2020’ campaign for every school in England to employ an apprentice by 2020.
The Future of School Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships have changed.
Apprenticeships are no longer just for young people starting their career. The introduction of the new apprenticeship funding system means that anyone can access training through an apprenticeship pathway, including existing staff. Apprenticeships can now provide a high quality and prestigious pathway to a successful career in any role within a school.
Putting employers in the driving seat
Apprenticeships will be based on standards designed by employer led groups..
Simplifying the system
The new employer-designed standards will be fit for purpose and the funding model will be simplified for employers to fund training through their levy.
A review of Apprenticeships in 2012, known as the Richard Review, found that significant improvements could be made to make Apprenticeships more rigorous and responsive to the needs of employers which would, in turn, help to drive growth in the number of apprenticeships. The Government’s plans for implementing these reforms include:
Giving employers purchasing power
Putting control of the Apprenticeship Levy into the hands of employers.
Increasing the quality of apprenticeships
An apprentice will need to demonstrate their competence through rigorous and holistic end point assessment.
